About Us

I started my metal working career in 1975 while working with horses as a
farrier. In 1980 I made my first weather vane which is still flying on a house
in Ellensburg, Washington. In 1989 I met my wife to be, Jill, and we starting
building J. Dub's together. We got our start at the Pike Place Market in
Seattle, Washington, and began doing art shows all over the western United
States. We were fortunate enough to have Esquire Magazine, Pacific Northwest
Magazine, The Seattle Times, and others come calling with an interest to do
articles on our work.
Over the years I have made miles of cuts with my plasma torch and created
hundreds of pieces for private and commercial customers.
Most of my recent work has been custom made fire screens, balcony panels, and
commercial signs. With the advent of "going portable", (I now have a portable
shop), we are on the road a lot building custom fire screens that are fit to
the fireplace.
Most work is done with 10 gauge and 3/16" mild steel, but recently, heavier
gauge plate, bronze, copper and stainless steel layers have been incorporated
into various pieces. Flat black paint or a black patina is used on the mild
steel, while a brushed finish has been used on the bronze and stainless.
Most of my images and past projects have been western related but I am always
ready for something different. The beauty of silhouetted images is that they
can be incorporated into many applications and styles.
Jill and I would like to thank all our customers that have kept us very busy
over the years and have stayed with J. Dub's when other similar looking work
started appearing on the market.
