The Complete Guide to
Ranch Entrance Signs
Everything you need to know about sizing, pricing, design, and installation — before you talk to anyone.
Everything You Need to Know — No Sales Pitch
If you're here, you're thinking about a sign for your entrance. Maybe you've been thinking about it for years. Maybe you just started looking.
Either way, you probably have the same questions everyone does: How big should it be? What's it going to cost? How does the whole process actually work?
This guide answers all of it. No pressure, no commitment. Just the information you need to make a smart decision — whether that's with us or with someone else.
"We hung the sign last weekend and three neighbors have already stopped to ask where we got it. The quality is unbelievable."
— Greg & Carol, Olympic Valley, CA
What Size Sign Does Your Entrance Actually Need?
Most people underestimate this. A sign that looks great in a photo can disappear on a wide entrance. The rule of thumb: your sign should be about two-thirds the width of your opening.
Measure post-to-post, or your best estimate
Popular Sizes
Our most popular sign is 96 x 22 inches (8 ft). For entrances 12 feet or wider, it hits the sweet spot — visible from the road without overwhelming your posts. From 50 feet away, anything smaller than 6 feet starts to disappear.
If you're hanging your sign between posts, make sure there's at least 13.5 feet of clearance beneath it. That's the minimum for a semi truck or trailer to pass underneath. Lower clearance? A post-mount sign sits on top of the beam instead.
Three Mounting Styles
Each sign ships with the hardware for your chosen mount built in. No extra charge, no extra parts to buy.
Hanging Mount
Our most popular option. Two welded eyelets on top connect to chains, hanging the sign beneath your crossbeam. Creates the classic ranch entrance look.
Best for: Entrances with a crossbeam or overhead structure. Requires 13.5 ft minimum clearance for tall vehicles.
Included: Welded eyelets. Chains sold separately or use your own.
Designing Your Sign
Every sign is designed from scratch by our artist. Not pulled from a template. You tell us what you want, and we draw it.
Your Text
The name on your sign is the most important element. Keep it short — two to four words is ideal. Ranch name, family name, property name. Longer text gets crowded and harder to read from a distance.
When text is cut from steel, letters with enclosed spaces (A, O, R, D, B, P, Q) need small connecting tabs to hold the center in place. This is standard for all plasma-cut signs. Our designer handles it automatically.
Design Elements
We recommend 2-4 elements for the best visual impact. More than four starts to look busy, especially at smaller sizes. Here are the most popular choices:
No extra charge for design elements or complexity. The price is based on sign size, not how many horses are on it.
Any element smaller than 1 inch tall is difficult to cut cleanly from steel. Livestock brands and small icons work best placed in a corner or along the top edge where they can be slightly larger.
What Does It Cost?
We price by size. A bigger sign costs more. A more complex design does not. Whether you want an eagle, three cowboys, and a mountain range or just your ranch name — same price for the same size.

How Payment Works
We split the cost into three parts so you never pay for the full sign upfront:
Design Reservation
A small deposit ($90 – $150 on most signs) to start your custom design. Fully refundable if you don't love the concept.
Production Deposit
Once you approve the design, 50% to begin cutting and fabrication.
Balance on Completion
Remaining balance when your sign is finished. We send photos before it ships.
Our artist spends real time drawing each sign from scratch. The small 10% deposit ensures we're working with serious customers so every project gets the attention it deserves. If you see the design and it's not for you, the deposit comes right back.

Yes. Ranch brands, logos, sketches — send them over and our designer will work them into the layout. Very small or intricate elements (under 1 inch) may need to be simplified slightly for clean cutting.
Black matte powder coat is the default and by far the most popular. The dark silhouette against sky or wood posts is the classic ranch entrance look. Other powder coat colors are available — just ask.
We build the steel sign and its mounting hardware. The wooden posts, crossbeam, and concrete work are handled by your local contractor or you. Most customers use 6x6 or round timber posts set in concrete. We can advise on spacing and height.
